Masjid Muhammad, The Nation’s Mosque joins the world in being deeply disturbed by the killings and grave humanitarian crisis and is demanding a ceasefire in Gaza. We continue to witness an unbearable human tragedy as Gaza has become the deadliest place for civilians in the world. The World Food Program is already warning that the threat of famine in Gaza is inevitable with the ongoing attacks and restrictions on humanitarian relief. A catastrophic lack of food in Gaza means that families are going for days without a meal. 2.2 million people, the entire population of Gaza is experiencing food insecurity at crisis level or above.
Some 1.7 million Palestinians, nearly 80% of the population, are estimated to be internally displaced – with many having been displaced multiple times. They are forced to shelter in schools, hospitals, U.N. facilities, and under card board boxes without basic supplies or sanitation. On top of this, a lack of fuel for water desalination has left 95% of Gaza’s population without access to safe water, increasing the risk of diseases like cholera.
“Hostilities in Gaza and Israel have created appalling human suffering, physical destruction and collective trauma across Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory. The international community has a responsibility to use all its influence to prevent further escalation and end this crisis…” said UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
